This is a nice walk that starts directly from our accommodation in Sidemen. It leads along the village Dusun Luah before taking some weathered, in stone carved stairs and through the jungle towards one of the village’s main temples.
From there a path opens in the vegetation, revealing splendid vistas in the occasionally opening canopy over Sidemen Valley. The track eventually takes us to the village of Sangkan Gunung. On the hill over the village is Pura Sangkan Gunung.
At its base, where some more stairs begin, is a small hut where tickets can be bought to access the temple. Once inside the compound visitors can walk around freely and enjoy the stunning view. Towards the North, if weather permits, we can see Mount Agung. On the compounds southern end the scene stretches over dense jungle towards south Bali and the sea.
Leaving the temple, at the end of the stairs that go straight down, we turn left to get back on the road. It menders through the forest we have seen from the top of the temple and occasionally passes in front of local dwellings. It’s a wonderful stroll along this quiet, mostly shaded, little road that we follow till we arrive again at our accommodation.
To all our guests we send a digital guidebook with information about our home and some local tips and recommendations in our area. In this guidebook is a detailed description of this wonderful self guided Sidemen trek which also does include a map.
